The very talented photographer, Ashley Marie Miles, emailed me about a very interesting shoot concept for VL Magazine that involved a sea goddess and a pirate. Now because I love surreal fashion shoot concepts, I naturally jumped at the opportunity to do the fashion styling, even though I wasn’t quite sure what the actual story would be. A pirate and a sea goddess? Eventually I thought of this: A sea goddess sinks a pirate’s ship and then turns her into a sea goddess (to see and understand the entire story, I recommend you check out the latest issue of VL Magazine).
Jelena Jablanovic is an amazing fashion designer who happened to have a lovely collection of sea goddess inspired couture. I combined her designs with my own vintage/second-hand finds – a gold ball gown, a white DIY skirt paired with a vintage blouse, a sequinned belt, a pair of leather boots, and a velvet corset with draped black material as a skirt. The headpieces were designed and made by Francoise, my awesome intern, who really understood what Ashley and I envisioned. The entire team’s effort did not go unnoticed – we’ve had such a great response from the readers thus far.
