Azzedine Alaia is a genius. There’s no doubt about that. So of course I was extremely thrilled to hear that some of his designs are on exhibition at The Musée Galliera in Paris (but equally depressed too, because I live in Cape Town).
“Azzedine Alaïa has always had an extraordinarily independent approach. He has been able to build a private clientele whom he invited to fashion shows in his apartment, and they have remained loyal to him ever since. He has never changed his personal approach to design, even after signing with big fashion houses with a global reach. He shows his collections when he wants to – when he is ready – regardless of any official calendar. His appearances are rare and he has never followed any trends.”
The Alaïa exhibition runs until January 26, 2014 at The Musée Galliera.
